Travel Diary: Hilton Head Island, SC x Greenville, NC

Hi everyone!  Welcome back to my blog!! I am super excited to write this post because it is my first ever, Travel Diary.  We were able to get a brief getaway to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for three days before heading to Greenville, North Carolina for three days to visit family.

Sunday:

We drove down on Sunday, which was pretty uneventful.  I snapped this beautiful shot during our drive.  I love seeing these sites because it always reminds me that God is all around us.  We stopped that night to sleep over in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Monday:

We got up bright and early so we could leave Rock Hill and arrive in Hilton Head asap.  It was a beautiful day.  There was a lot of sun and was really hot.  Luckily, that day I did not get too much sunburn, which is always a bonus with my sensitive skin!

We went out to dinner that night to a Pittsburgh sports bar, called Giusseppi’s.  We got to have some tasty pizza, watch a bit of the Pens game, and then we called it a night.

Tuesday:

This was a fun day!  We were able to get up, get a work out in, and get to the pool early!  During my time relaxing by the pool, I read an entire book.  The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen was so good and will be featured in an upcoming post about my favorite books for the summer!  Unfortunately, on this day, I got the blotchiest sunburn ever.

That evening we went to get Thai food from a restaurant called Ruan Thai.  Last year we had gone to the same restaurant and it was the first time I had ever tried this type of cuisine.  I loved it and was so excited when we went back this summer.  After dinner, we headed out to do a little shopping and get ice cream.  The Salty Dog Ice Cream is definitely a stop you will want to make while visiting Hilton Head.  I decided to step out of my comfort zone and chose the Twix ice cream.  Typically, I would have chosen Oreo ice cream but I am glad I changed it up this time around!

Wednesday:

On Wednesday, we got hit with a little bit of bad weather which was a bummer.  While being a bummer, it was also a blessing in disguise for me because I had so much sunburn.  It was the perfect opportunity to be out of the sun once the rain began.

That evening, we went the Old Oyster Factory for dinner.  This is one of our favorites on the island.  I chose a seafood medley for my meal, which included mahi mahi, shrimp, scallops, two different kinds of oysters, rice, and vegetables.  The dinner was absolutely delicious.  If it wasn’t so much food, I would have happily ate the entire meal.  We also got a dessert which consisted of a chocolate chip cookie, ice cream, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream.

Thursday:

On Thursday, we got up early that morning to leave Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and went on our way to Greenville, North Carolina.  My mom’s best friend and her family moved to this area about ten years ago.  We often go down to visit them over the summer.

The evening was nice and relaxing.  We all just hung out and caught up.  For dinner, we stayed in and ate pulled pork, coleslaw, and fruit salad!

Friday:

Friday we had a very busy day.  We got up and went for a run.  It was hot and humid, which made for not a very fun run.  Our run was followed by lunch at Zoes.  I had never been and really enjoyed it.  I wish we had one of these in the Pittsburgh area.  We did some errands and then ended up at Duck Donut, another first for me.  It was National Donut Day so naturally I needed to have a donut!  It was so good and hardly even tasted like a donut.  To me it was more like a cake!  We finished out the day with a little league baseball game and Mexican for dinner.
